In a crisis, our community knows it can count on the Mt. Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Our caring, capable staff and volunteers work around the clock to help you and your neighbors prevent, prepare for, and respond to a wide range of emergencies.

We provide for the immediate needs of local disaster victims with shelter, food, clothing, financial assistance, and advocacy.  We hydrate and feed emergency response workers as they serve the public during local disasters.  We train thousands of residents each year in first aid, CPR, and other health and safety areas, all of which help to save lives.  We connect families with their loved ones in the military during emergencies.  We continually train our volunteers to ensure they have the necessary skills to strengthen our community’s response during a disaster.

Each one of these acts represents a gift from people right here in our community who care about their neighbors, and trust we will do the most good with their charitable dollars.  Because more people depend on our services each year, we do everything we can to stretch our dollars.  We stand by our commitment to you.  When you need us, we’ll be there!

The Red Cross

in Our Community

Disaster Relief and Community Disaster Education

When a disaster strikes, the Red Cross is there. This year, we responded to 60 local disasters, including 48 residential fires, and one apartment building fire involving twelve families.  We helped 254 affected individuals and families with emergency food, shelter, and supplies.  We also 106 people affected by flooding during November 2006.

Because being prepared can make your family and community safer, as well as minimize injury and destruction, we made disaster education presentations to3,949 members of the community.

Health and Safety Services

From first aid, CPR, and AED training to swimming and lifeguarding, American Red Cross programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. This year, 10,530 individuals learned lifesaving skills through 977 classes offered by the Mt. Baker Chapter.

International Services

The international tracing program helps local families find relatives with whom they have lost contact due to a natural disaster, war, or internal conflict.  This year, we educated 44 individuals on how to help reconnect families.

Armed Forces Emergency Services

The American Red Cross provides communication between those in the Armed Forces and their families. We have a worldwide network that reaches service members wherever they are to communicate a birth, death or illness. This year, we provided emergency connections for 119 military families.

Community Services

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Mt. Baker Chapter.  Without them we would not be able to prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters in our community.  Volunteers respond to local and national disasters, provide assistance to clients, instruct health & safety classes, raise funds, coordinate projects and special events, and lead and manage a variety of support functions.

This past year 350 volunteers worked over 100,000 hours for a total contribution of $1,877,000.
