This was a celebration of Ordinary People with Extraordinary Courage who exemplify the mission of the Red Cross. Everyone in attendance enjoyed an evening filled with emotion,  and motivation.

The chosen Heroes act as examples of the courage and inherent kindness that lies within all of us.

The key note address was presented by Greg Otterholt, a local radio and television personality. Greg shared a message of "grace" using song that enlightened and inspired all.

This was the primary fundraising event for the Mt. Baker Chapter of the Red Cross. The Real Heroes celebration was kindly supported by our guests and generous contributions from our sponsors.

We are proud to have been able to honor these 10 Real Heroes.

MASS CARE SUPPORT REPRESENTATION                                                                        September 2007

In support of the United Way of Whatcom County campaign which kicked off September 6th, 2007, the American Red Cross Mass care team set up a representation of their mass care support. The emergency response trailer and tent was set up in the front parking lot, a mock shelter was set up in the health and safety class rooms and a demonstration of mass care feeding was done from the ERV (Emergency Response vehicle) that was positioned in the lane behind the Red Cross classrooms. Visitors included, United Way campaign executives, the President of the United Way, Peter Theisen, Mt. Baker Chapter Board president Larry Goodrich and various company campaign coordinators from businesses throughout Whatcom County that conduct United Way campaigns for their employees. This was to give everyone a better understanding of the working of a Red Cross mass care effort and shelter site.

We would especially like to thank the following Red Cross volunteers that made this demonstration so realistic.

CoCo Lomas – Primary Cook, Mavis Dalzell – Cook, Suzie Riel – Cook Sue Hibma – ERV, Karen Ver Berg – ERV Chris Regis – Shelter, Cheryl Tooker – Shelter DHS, Kathy Hagwell – Shelter Jay Walker – Trailer, Mary Stack – Trailer, Joe Egan – Trailer
